Unfortunately, on older models, Amazon didn't let you lot change the Kindle Fire wallpaper, although the tablet did come up preloaded with several basic background pictures.
Fortunately, with a little finagling nosotros can work around this outcome (without rooting our device) by using one of my Kindle tricks and tips.
Update! For newer tablets (2015+) please see the updated annotation below.
In 2012 Amazon added stronger blocks on their new Kindle Fires and since then we can't alter the background wallpapers on whatsoever of the newer tablets. :(
Delight annotation that the tutorial on THIS page is only for the original Kindle Burn down (2011).
Notwithstanding, for tablets released since 2015 (and nearly 2014 models) yous can now change your Kindle Fire background wallpaper! Run across my step-past-step tutorial for all the details.
Kindle Fire Wallpaper Preparation
There are two parts to this overall process. The first is to side load the Rotating Wallpaper app onto your device.
Go practise that first and then come back and finish this tutorial for irresolute your Kindle Fire wallpaper.
Accept y'all gone "there and dorsum once again"? Alright, let'southward first function ii of this procedure- it'll be fun!
Kindle Fire Wallpaper Tutorial
To keep things simple, I'k dividing this tutorial into three main steps:
- Resize Your Photos
- Load Photos to Your Kindle Fire
- Add Photos to Rotating Wallpaper App
Information technology'southward really quite easy, I promise! All the same, yous will need a way to transfer the files onto your Kindle Fire. See step two for details.
1. Resize Your Photos
For your photos to properly display using the Rotating Wallpaper app, you volition demand to resize and crop your photos then increment the canvas size to 1024x1024 pixels.
The real consequence, though, is that only 515x880 of the image is what shows up on your Kindle Fire's wallpaper. Most photo editing software packages have the capability to resize and crop photos.
For those who don't have photo editing software on your computer and/or aren't certain how to practice this- don't fret! I've typed upward an commodity on how to resize your photos to utilize as a Kindle Fire wallpaper, and this tutorial uses a free online editor. How sweet is that?!
If you'd prefer not to mess with this you lot tin can endeavor using any photograph equally is, or even but crop information technology to 1024x1024, although the wallpaper won't display the unabridged image since it will be zoomed in. Below is one example of this.
However, this normally works fine with abstract pictures that don't take a specific particular of focus.
Once your photograph has been resized, cropped, and set to the right dimensions, you'll be ready for the next footstep of the process. If you're not sure how to do this, be sure to follow my photo resizing tutorial mentioned above.
Free Kindle Fire Wallpapers
How about some complimentary wallpapers for your Kindle Fire? I thought information technology would be cracking to add some costless photos that yous can utilise correct now!
This zip file contains x beautiful pictures of flowers that take already been resized to fit your Kindle Fire. (I personally took these pics and grant y'all rights to employ them for personal use.)
Simply download the file (information technology's less than 1 MB), unzip the files to your computer and then continue on to the next step to load them onto your tablet.
Y'all tin also see the flower pictures on my facebook folio.
2. Load Photos to Your Kindle Burn down
There are several ways to transfer photos from your figurer (or other device) onto your Kindle Burn. Here are two options:
Option A:
Utilise an app to transfer files. I dear using Wi-Fi File Explorer Pro. Although at that place's a costless version of Wi-Fi File Explorer, you need the paid version (it's only a cadet) to be able to transfer files to your Kindle Burn. For this to work you demand your computer and Burn on the same Wi-Fi bespeak.
If you use this option just follow the app's instructions that popular up when y'all open it. You will type the URL it gives you lot into your web browser on your PC and be able to access your tablet's file directory without plugging in whatsoever cords. I love how like shooting fish in a barrel this app is!
Choice B:
Plug your Kindle Fire into your computer with a micro USB data cable. Your tablet does non come with this accompaniment. The exact string you lot need would accept a USB 2.0 (micro-B connector) at i stop and a regular USB connexion at the other.
My phone's cablevision works perfectly, so you might already have i that will work for you.
When you lot plug in your tablet y'all will need to tap the power push and swipe the screen. One time it's connected it should show up on your reckoner equally a KINDLE drive.
Once you're connected to your tablet (using either option), find the "pictures" folder, and transfer your photos there. For this tutorial, I created a binder within the pictures binder and named it "wallpaper" (artistic, huh?).
Now yous're ready for the final step for adding your ain Kindle Burn background pictures.
iii. Add Photos to Rotating Wallpaper App
Now nosotros're ready to add together your photos to the Rotating Wallpaper app. If you don't already accept information technology open up, go ahead and open up it at present.
When you lot first open the Rotating Wallpaper app you get this Aid screen. Tap "Close".
Tap the "Add Prepare" push button at the bottom left.
Tap the text field and type a name for your photo fix. (In this example I use the word "family" since I will be putting pictures of my family in this set up. Later, only not shown in this tutorial, I will create a set called "scenes" for my other photos.)
Tap "Ok".
Now yous are in the binder of the gear up you are creating. The name of the binder is at the summit left, mine says, "family".
Tap the "Add a File" button at the lesser left. (If you desire to add an entire folder of images, tap "Add a Binder".)
Your Kindle Fire photo gallery should open upwards.
Tap the group of photos chosen "wallpaper" (or whatever you named it during step one of this tutorial).
Tap the picture you want to add.
Now your photo has been added to the set.
Echo the previous stride to add together any additional photos you would like in this set.
When finished, tap the back arrow. This returns you to the main window where you should run across a folder with the name you gave the prepare.
Tap the "Settings" push at the bottom right.
In the settings screen, tap the "Active Wallpaper Set" choice at the top.
Tap the name of your fix to actuate it. Mine says "family unit".
This returns y'all to the settings screen. Now tap the 2nd option, "Rotate Interval".
On the list that comes up, slide the screen down until you run into the superlative.
Tap "1 minute".
Back at the settings screen tap, "Filibuster on Sleep" to put a check mark in the box.
Tap the back arrow to return to the chief screen.
After 1 minute the background image will automatically change, as shown in the image beneath, but y'all tin tap the "Rotate Now" button at the lesser center to come across how your epitome looks.
If you're satisfied with how the prototype of your customized wallpaper looks on your Kindle Burn down then you're all set to become! You tin test it out by borer your power push so it goes into sleep mode, waiting one minute, and so tapping the button over again.
And that'southward information technology!
Important Note!
When you get-go boot up your Kindle Burn your custom photo won't display until one minute has passed.
Also, after using your tablet and then pressing your power push button, your image might not display until after a minute has passed. This is due to the rotating wallpaper'due south minimum setting of 1 minute.
Once your background image has displayed it should stay there until the next fourth dimension you reboot. Information technology will also rotate to the next paradigm if you have more one photograph loaded into the currently agile set.
Of class, if you'd like an image to stay for more than a infinitesimal, you are free to change the setting to any of the other alternative options, although y'all may accept to wait that corporeality of time until your image is displayed in place of the bones Kindle Fire backgrounds that come pre installed.
Here's one more than example showing how I added a moving picture of my cute baby girl to my Kindle Fire'due south background wallpaper. (In this photo I already swiped the orange bar across the screen which brought up the password area. This style you tin see my girl'south gorgeous smile!)
Fire friend Bridget contacted me via my Facebook folio saying "My Fire keeps resetting to one specific wallpaper (which I'thou getting really tired of) regardless of what I change it to. Is in that location whatsoever way to brand the 1 I want *stay* the one I want?"
I suggested that she changed to the wallpaper of her pick, and so held the power button down for a full minute.
Bridget was happy to report back that this fixed the problem - handy to know if information technology happens to you!
If y'all enjoyed this tutorial please let me know or browse through my other Kindle tricks and tips. I put a lot of hours into this (which was actually fun, since I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't beloved it so much) so I would really love to hear how it worked for you and what you think.
